When to Visit Cape Verde? Weather, Seasons, and Activities

Temperatures, wind, whale season: the ideal calendar to plan your stay in Boa Vista.

Cape Verde enjoys a mild climate all year round, with air temperatures between 24 and 30 °C and sea temperatures around 23-26 °C. There is no bad season, but each period has its own advantages.

From November to March: the most pleasant season

Clear skies, gentle warmth, and low humidity. This is the peak tourist season: remember to book your excursions in advance.

From February to May: whale season

This is the only period when you can observe humpback whales off the coast of Boa Vista. During these months, the snorkeling excursion is not available.

From June to October: warm sea and great visibility

The water temperature is at its peak, and underwater visibility is excellent for snorkeling. A few short showers may occur in August and September.

Wind, a factor to keep in mind

The trade winds blow for a large part of the year. At sea, the wind is always more noticeable than on land: a windbreaker is useful even in summer. In strong winds, some trips may be postponed on the morning of departure for safety reasons.

Summary

  • Whale watching: February to May.
  • Mildest climate: November to March.
  • Fewer crowds: June to September.
