Temperatures, wind and whale season: the ideal calendar to plan your stay in Boa Vista.
Cape Verde enjoys a mild climate all year, with air temperatures between 24 and 30 °C and sea temperatures around 23-26 °C. There is no bad season, but each period has its own advantages.
November to March: the most pleasant season
Clear skies, gentle heat and low humidity. This is the high tourist season, so book your excursions in advance.
February to May: whale season
This is the only period when humpback whales can be watched off Boa Vista. During these months the snorkeling trip is not offered.
June to October: warm sea and great visibility
The water is at its warmest and underwater visibility is excellent for snorkeling. Short showers can occur in August and September.
Wind: a factor to know about
Trade winds blow for much of the year. At sea the wind always feels stronger than on land, so a windbreaker is useful even in summer. In strong wind, some trips may be postponed on the morning itself for safety.
In short
- To see whales: February to May.
- Best snorkeling visibility: May to November.
- Mildest climate: November to March.
- Fewer crowds: June to September.
